A Louth author’s debut novel has taken the literary world by storm, after it propelled straight into the iBook top ten charts - eventually hitting the number one spot on Monday evening.
Jimmy Rice from Louth, now living in London, co-authored “The Best Thing That Never Happened To Me” with his friend Laura Tait, and it was released as an e-book on April 10.
The paperback edition is due to come out in July, which is when Jimmy hoped their success would really take off.
However, the novel’s incredible early success has surprised even him.
Jimmy said: “We love the book and we’re really proud of it, so we hoped it’d sell well, but to be top of one of the main eBook charts after two weeks... we keep having to look at the chart to check that it’s real.
“To get this response and these sales so early is really exciting and a bit surreal.”
Fortunately, it’s not just a case of positive sales figures for Jimmy and Laura - it’s positive feedback too.
Jimmy said: “Thankfully, some of the big book bloggers have really got behind us, which has helped a lot as they have thousands of followers on Twitter.
“Word of mouth has been the key. Glamour magazine made us one of their ‘top summer reads’, and we’ve even been asked to go on Vanessa Feltz radio show next week.
“The book is averaging 4.5 out of five on Goodreads and iBooks”.
