The leader of East Lindsey District Council, Coun Doreen Stephenson, was non-committal when quizzed about the future of the Louth cattle market at a full meeting of members.

Asked by Coun Daniel Simpson if she could identify how any captal receipt might be spent in the event of the sale of the site to a developer, she replied: “Not at this point in time.”

When the same councillor further asked if she would give an assurance that members would have a free vote - with no political ‘whip’ - if asked to make any decision on a sale, the leader replied: “No.”

An independent report on options for the site is due to be considered at next month’s (September) meeting of the executive board.
