Louth man who drove '˜while four times over the limit' gets suspended prison sentence

Michael Edward Goldby, 42, of Queen Street, also received a three year driving ban when he admitted the offence at Boston Magistrates’ Court on February 8.

The offence took place on July 18 last year, when Goldby drove a Vauxhall Combo van in Eastfield Road, Louth, with 376 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in his system.

The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol - meaning that Goldby was 4.7 times over the limit.

The court imposed a 16 week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, due to the serious nature of the crime and the ‘exceptionally high level of alcohol’ involved in the offence.

In addition to this, Goldby must pay £85 in court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

The court did not offer a drink-drive rehabilitation scheme, due to the defendant’s ‘exceptionally high reading’.
