Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea beaches earn national awards

MABLETHORPE and Sutton on Sea are celebrating after being nationally recognised for the quality of their beaches.

The pair were among four beaches in the county to earn Blue Flag and Quality Coast awards from anti litter charity ‘Keep Britain Tidy’.

There are 146 award winning beaches in England this year, with 70 Blue Flags and 108 Quality Coast awards handed out to the best resorts.

Doreen Stephenson, Leader of the East Lindsey District Council, commented: “We know our coastline is first class and our beaches are amongst the very best and a major attraction to our visitors. We must deveop new opportunities for business by attracting new visitors to our area - we’re already seeing success with this through SO Festival in Skegness and the Festival of Bathing Beauties in Mablethorpe.”

She added: “East Lindsey remains firmly on a the map as one of the UK’s leading tourist destinations and we will fly these flags with pride.”

Cleethorpes and Skegness were also given the awards which are handed out each summer.
