Mablethorpe day care centre could stay open under new plans

MABLETHORPE’S day centre could remain open under new proposals announced by Lincolnshire County Council.

The Community Base Day Centre, in Wellington Road, was under threat of closure due to funding cuts.

But feedback from consultation sessions has led to the u-turn from the council.

Whilst no longer directly providing services for the 31 day centres in Lincolnshire, the proposal is to keep buildings open and support staff and businesses who wish to take centres on as viable support services.

Emphasis in recent years has leaned towards community supported living services so people with learning disabilities can live independently at home.

Seventeen people are currently using Mablethorpe’s centre each week.

The council’s Adult Scrutiny Committee will discuss the plans on February 28 before a final decision is made by its executive on March 6.
