MABLETHORPE’S annual marathon and half-marathon can now be ranked amongst the country’s best road races after being given a prestigious award.
The five-year-old event received a Gold BARR award from the British Association of Road Races after passing a rigorous examination which looked at the highest standards of organisation and provision.
Last year almost 700 runners took part thanks to the work of around 200 volunteers.
Chair of the Mablethorpe Marathon Foundation, Tony Howard, said: “To be rated alongside prestigious events like the London Marathon and Great North Run is staggering.
“All our team should be very proud of themselves.”
This year’s race is on Sunday, October 7 and registration closes on September 27.
