Mablethorpe’s own resident town crier has been showing off his talents in Germany - after he was asked to make a special proclamtion.

Roy Palmer can usually be seen ringing his bell and shouting out his signature calls at all of the annual events in Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea, from Remembrance Day to the Christmas Cracker event and the Trusthorpe and Sutton on Sea Carnival as well as St Georg’s Day on horseback.

But Germany was his most recent port of call after a couple, friends of Roy’s, had visited Mablethorpe and to see him in action.

They were so impressed that they asked Roy if he would make a special appearance and perform a proclamation in German which he did just recently at their daughter’s wedding in Bielefeld.

Roy explained: “It was safe to say that trying to figure out what to say in a proclamation to a couple I didn’t know in German was certainly one of my biggest challenges to date.

“But never one to turn a task down and after many phone calls later, I managed to surprise them all. The happy couple, Yvonne Ernst and Doctor Marcel Sanguinette, had no clue I was due to perform, but the bride and groom alongside their guests loved every second.”

The couple enjoyed it so much, that Roy is returning next week to be part of their son’s christening.
