Talented Maltby Le Marsh darts player Sam Hewson has got himself a slot in this Thursday’s BDO World Trophy 2015.

With former world darts champion, Scott Waites, having to pull out of the competition, due to injury, it has presented a wildcard slot for the 21-year-old to play at Events City in Manchester and will be aired live on Eurosport.

32 players will take to the stage on Thursday (February 26), starting from 6.30pm till midnight and Sam is scheduled second to last in the line-up.

This will be his second televised match, after being the youngest player to participate in the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships that was aired on BBC in January.

Sam is delighted to have been given another televised opportunity to take to the oche.

He said: “It’s like I’m living the dream. It feels amazing to be back on TV so quickly and long may it continue, the hard work especially will.”

Sam, ranked 21, will be playing against Ted Hankey, ranked 23 in the straight knockout competition.

Sam added: “I’m feeling confident, you have to be positive and believe in your own ability.

“However Ted is a cracking player with great stage presence and experience, he cannot be underestimated by any means. I will give it my all as always and what will be, will be.”

Stephen Holland, managing director of BDO events, said: “Obviously we are very disappointed that Scott won’t be able to take part but we wish him well and a speedy recovery.

“Sam is a great young player and climbing the BDO ranking tables steadily.

“He’s certainly a player to keep an eye on.”

As well as getting ready to play live on TV, Sam has another reason to celebrate after securing a new sponsorship deal with Jesters Bar in Mablethorpe, who will now be Sam’s main sponsor.

Owner of Jesters Bar, Jamie Pittam, said: “It’s great to be able to support Sam and become his main sponsor. He’s represented Jesters for a few years and it’s fantastic to see somebody from our area compete on the world stage.

“Sam is a great young talent and has many family and friends behind him, who knows, maybe we’re seeing a future world champion in our mitts.”

Sam added: “A big thank you goes out to each and every one of you that have supported me.

“From my sponsors, family, friends, teammates, and my girlfriend Yasmin, your support is truly amazing and you have all helped me to achieve what I have done so far.”
