A local man is in custody today after being arrested on suspicion of drink driving, following a crash yesterday evening (March 15) which left Louth’s war memorial badly damaged.

The collision occurred around 8.45pm on Sunday evening and involved a black Fiat Punto.

The driver, a 28 year-old local man, initially left the scene but subsequently made contact with police and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The man has now been bailed until May 4.

Any witnesses who have not already spoken with police, are asked to call 101, quoting incident number 363 of March 15.
