The Mablethorpe Marathon committee are pleased to announce that they were recently informed that the marathon has retained it’s ‘Gold Grade Race Status’ for the second year running.

The committee received word about the good news after getting their scrutineers report from the United Kingdom Athletics and British Association of Road Races.

In the report, Mike Burgoyne, senior race scrutineer and Di Burgoyne, race scrutineer, said: “This an excellent race whose organisers take pride in putting on an event that the town of Mablethorpe can be proud of.

“The present committee has clearly picked up and implemented advice from UKA and lately BARR.

“It endeavours to make sure all participants whether it be runners, spectators, marshals and other helpers have an enjoyable day.

“It is not known as the ‘Friendly’ Marathon for nothing. The event deserves its BARR Gold Grade Status.”

The Hon. President, Terry Stow added: “The Mablethorpe Marathon is now setting standards that others seek to achieve.”

“The work now starts for next years event that takes place on Sunday, October 5, 2014.”
