A woman described as “one in a million” who has helped care for an elderly couple has been nominated for The Local’s Rose Award.

The Rose Award is given to members of the community who have been nominated for going that extra mile for someone else.

Margaret Bilby, 61, of Ancaster Road, Bourne, was put forward for the accolade by Richard and Janet Riley for her hard work looking after Mr Riley’s elderly parents.

Mr Riley said: “My whole family would like to say a huge thank you to Margaret. She really is one in a million.

“Margaret has been looking after my mother and father for more than 20 years. Sadly my mother, Effie, passed away nine years ago and my father Jeffrey is now in The Cedars nursing home.”

Mr Riley said: “She was very chuffed when she was presented with the award because it was a surprise.”

Margaret started as a cleaner for the Bourne couple but soon became a big part of their lives, caring for them and still regularly visiting Jeffrey.

The Rose Award was presented to Margaret by Mr Riley and his family at The Cedars in Church Walk, Bourne. The Rose was kindly provided by Stephanie’s Flowers in Crown Walk.
