NEW funding from East Lindsey District Council could give a boost to Mablethorpe’s Bathing Beauties Festival.
ELDC’s executive board has agreed to invest £350,000 into local cultural events including the annual art festival which attracts thousands to the resort.
The decision is subject to full council approval later this month but it could give a timely financial boost in the year of the London Olympics.
The council are hoping to ride the wave of tourism that the 2012 games will bring, with Portfolio Holder for Leisure at the council, Coun Adam Grist, saying: “We’ve been building up to this for some time and in 2012 the eyes of the world will be on the UK for the Olympic Games. We need to use 2012 as a springboard into the future and ensure we generate significant levels of publicity for our district which makes people want to come and visit.”
“As well as attracting more visitors we want to use cultural events to inspire people to develop new skills by volunteering and to take part in sport and leisure to improve their health.”
