THE Independent Group at East Lindsey District Council has a new line up which they say will be working to provide ‘an effective opposition to the present administration at Manby’.
After nine years as Leader of the group Coun Jeremy Webb from Alford has decided to stand down to concentrate on his business.
His place is taken by Grimoldby Coun Terry Knowles.
He paid tribute to his predecessor: “Coun Webb was the driving force behind raising standards at East Lindsey, taking the council from a poor performer to having a good rating. His vision and hard work as leader of the council, and then as a leading member of the coalition, saw great improvements which have benefited council tax payers considerably”
Coun Knowles intends to build on this good work. “These are challenging times for local government and our number one priority will be to serve the people we represent by making sure that the council spends its money wisely.
We have a good team with good ideas and I intend to build on these strengths and enthusiasm taking our own ideas forward where we feel we have a case to be heard.”
At the recent AGM of the Independent group Coun Jill Makinson-Sanders was elected Deputy Leader, Coun Edward Mossop was elected Chairman and Coun Andrew Ferryman Vice Chairman.
Coun Janet Harrison will continue as secretary of the group and Coun Brian Burnett continues as Treasurer.
