A new help and advice service has been set up in Alford to provide extra support to residents who do not have a similar service nearby.

The Signpost Service is free and friendly and has been set up to provide support to those living in Alford, Sutton on Sea, Mablethorpe, Spilsby, Skegness and all those living in the surrounding areas in-between.

Sessions are held every Thursday at Alford Community Church in West Street from 11am-3pm and delivers a one to one confidential consultation whether it be help and support regarding debt issues, benefits or any other problems you may need some friendly advice on.

Co-ordinator Isobel Barrett said: “We are not replacing the Citizen Advice Bureau (CAB), it is just that they have closed so many rural offices and we get so many enquiries, that we felt there was a need.

“So some of our volunteers went away, had training from various support organisations and The Signpost Service got started from there.”

Isobel added: “So far the response has been great, we were able to set this service up and running thanks to
the support from the local church.

“We cannot answer all the questions, but often as not we know someone who can help and therefore sign them to other organisations, in some cases with additional support material like letters.

“It’s free and impartial with each appointment approximately one hour long and everything is totally confidential.”
