Patrick Purves plays at Christmas market

LOUTH solicitor Patrick Purves has raised £78 for Help for Heroes and the RNLI.

Crouched on a campstool in a corner of the Market Hall entrance by Cobwebs shop Patrick played for the Louth Christmas Market for over five continuous hours on Sunday, bolstered by one hotdog donated by the Rotary stall, a cup of coffee and a pint from Cobbles Bar.

Bewildered shoppers were variously treated to Uilleann bagpipes, Border Half-Long bagpipes, whistle and melodeon, cranking out a mixture of English, Scots, Irish, French and even some Welsh and American tunes, and one from Russia.

He thanked the many tolerant passers-by who pitched in on the day.
