Coun Watson formally took the chains of office at a special meeting of Louth Town Council, replacing the outgoing mayor Coun Eileen Ballard.

As Coun Watson had served as the deputy mayor for the last 12 months, the election which elevated her to the mayoral role was simply a formality - in keeping with town council tradition.

At the same meeting, councillors also formally elected Coun George Horton to the post of deputy mayor, and he will be expected to become the next Mayor of Louth after Coun Watson has served her year in office.

Outgoing mayor Coun Ballard thanked councillors for their support during her year in office, and she was presented with a replica of the Arms of the Town.
