Plea to keep North Somercotes ‘alive’

An impassioned plea from a resident helped to secure planning permission for a new dormer bungalow to be built in North Somercotes.

Speaking at an East Lindsey planning meeting, Alwyn Drewery urged: “We need to keep our young people - we need to keep our village alive.

“We need to show that North Somercotes is open for businesss.”

Although planning officers recommended refusal of the development because the site, off Wembley Road, is a field just outside the village boundary, the committee overwhelmingly voted in favour.

Coun Jill Makinson-Sanders described the design as ‘bland’ but she backed the scheme after noting that applicant Mr C Pickard, a fireman, and his wife are a young couple.

“We want our villages to be vibrant,” she declared.

Coun Dick Edginton also spoke in favour, arguing that that refusal would be ‘tantamount to a dogmatic illogicality’.
