Ploughing day raises £586 for St Mary’s Church tower fund

TIM Elliott of Grove Farm, East Barkwith, provided the hospitality for the Annual John Clark Charity Ploughing Day.

The fields were prepared by David and Mark Stephenson of Stephenson Farms, East Barkwith, and John Plowright of the Lincolnshire and Newark Vintage Ploughing Association organised the ploughmen. The John Clark Memorial Trophy donated by Grace Clark was presented to R Graham of Yorkshire, the winner of the vintage trailed plough class.

Results: Vintage Tractor with Mounted Plough winner B Knight; Classic Class winner John Plowright; Intermediate Class winner J Snell; Ferguson T 20 Class winner J Kitchen; Horticultural Class winner A Marshall.

The St Mary’s Church Committee was presented with £586 for the Tower Restoration Fund from the proceeds with £150 for the Ploughman’s Travel Fund and £140 for the Village Hall Refurbishment.

Melvyn Clark was kept busy on the barbecue assisted by Barbara Stephenson and Carol Stephenson.
