Youngsters aged 16 and 17 are being encouraged to register to vote to ensure they do not miss out on their right to vote in upcoming elections.

East Lindsey District Council is reminding youngsters they can register now to be sure they are able to vote in elections following their 18th birthday, which could include elections taking place on May 7, 2015. East Lindsey returning officer Stuart Davy said: “The right to vote is important, it gives everyone a chance to have a say in the decisions which affect them. It is vital you register to vote as soon as possible.”

Following changes in electoral registration which came into force earlier this year, youngsters will have to register themselves. This can be done online at: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or by call 01507 613435 or 613436.

Following the changes to individual electoral registration, letters were sent out to people in the district who need to re-register. If you have received a reminder, it’s important you do so as soon as possible.
