MABLETHORPE’S annual lights switch-on event this Saturday promises to be ‘a day to remember’ according to organisers.
Revamped from a celebrity switch-on with a new format, this year a spectacular fireshow will be the centrepiece of what has become a highlight of the coast’s summer calendar.
East Lindsey District Council has again teamed up with Mablethorpe Town Council, Mablethorpe Area Partnership and Mablethorpe Tourism Forum to produce a packed day of events for all ages.
Last year saw Britain’s Got Talent dance duo Twist and Pulse draw around 7,000 people onto the seafront.
This year Flame Oz, an award-winning and world-travelling fire show, will be the grand finale on the beach from 9.15pm.
The performers promise ‘a highly-energetic, choreographed fire dance and pyrotechnic spectacular that will leave the audience awestruck’.
Then the summer lights will illuminate!
An array of events are also being planned from as early as 10am, with Punch and Judy and Russell’s Circus entertaining. Local businesses will also be doing their bit, from Linda’s Pavillion holding face painting and kids’ activities to 99p fairground rides after 7pm at the Dunes.
There’s also the return of the hugely-popular food market from 11am-6pm in the High Street.
And sports fans won’t be short of something to do; beach cricket and slacklining will be taking place through the day on the beach, and people can also watch live theatre and music.
Mablethorpe’s town manager Karen Froggatt, said: “This year’s illuminations will be a fantastic event with lots of activity throughout the day, and with an internationally-acclaimed fire show in the evening, it is set to be a day to remember.
“We hope to see lots of visitors come to Mablethorpe to join in the celebrations with us.”
