THE world famous Red Arrows could be the highlight of this year’s Sutton on Sea Carnival if ambitious plans are successful.

Organisers are quietly confident the Royal Air Force’s flagship team will put on a display for the thousands of people expected to attend this year’s event on Sunday.

Before that though, this year’s Olympic-themed carnival is anticipated to be as big as ever.

Already there are 40 official parade entries, as well as no fewer than five marching bands.

Getting underway from 12 noon, the day will be packed with entertainment and displays from musicians to dancers.

Peter Hawkyard, who helps to organise the event each year, said: “This is one of the biggest parades on the east coast, and with the weather on the up and fully-booked camp sites, we’re expecting really good crowds once again.”

This year’s grand parade sets off from Broadway at 3pm, with the Red Arrows display around 4pm.

If you can’t wait for Sunday, there are a number of events being held locally in the lead up to the event.

Tonight (Wednesday), get your heads down for a top quiz night at the Bacchus Hotel from 8pm. Teams of up to four can enter for just £1 each.

And on Saturday get involved in a pavement artist competition or sandcastle building from 2pm on the beach. Will your castle be the best?
