TO mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic on Saturday, this week’s Leader features the remarkable survival story of a man with a local connection.

Algy Barkworth, a Justice of the Peace from Hessle, was aboard the doomed ship on that freezing night.

Algy was one of the last to leave the ship and remarked that even the violin players had fled when he finally jumped into the sea.
