The Silhouettes Musical Theatre group is set to mark a major anniversary next month with a string of performances at Grimsby Auditorium.

The amateur group is based in North East Lincolnshire and has strong connections with the Louth Playgoers Society, with many keen performers and theatre-goers supporting both groups.

In June, the Silhouettes will mark their 75th anniversary and they will perform Carousel, by Rodgers and Hammerstein, at the auditorium for four nights, from June 1 to 4.

Carousel, a timeless classic American musical, has been voted the best musical of the 20th century by Time Magazine, and features hit songs including You’ll Never Walk Alone, If I Loved You, and June Is Bustin Out All Over.

When mill worker Julie Jordan falls for the masculine charms of Billy Bigelow, a chain of events unravels that suggests their destiny is predetermined by the hand of fate.

Set in a fishing community in New England, Carousel charts a story of love, loss and the possibility of redemption.

The performances will mark the Silhouettes’ return to the Grimsby Auditorium following a seven-year break.

The group was initially formed as the Silhouettes Operatic Society in 1941 to provide a little light relief to the local area during the Second World War.

Today, the group has over 70 members aged between 14 and 90, and there are also many child members who are cast in their musicals.
