Sir Peter Tapsell MP visits DS Smith in Louth

LOUTH MP Sir Peter Tapsell recently packed his way along to local packaging firm DS Smith in Louth.

MP for both Louth and Horncastle, Sir Peter visited the Northfields site, located in Grimsby Road.

The local branch is part of the DS Smith group of companies which employs a total of 22,000 people worldwide across over 300 sites.

Sir Peter was welcomed to the plant by Managing Director Mike Nicholas and was introduced to various members of staff.

DS Smith employs 202 local people at its Northfields site and produces a wide variety of specialist corrugated board packaging for the food, pet food and brewing industries.

Sir Peter was then given a guided tour around the plant and he was particularly impressed with the amount of highly sophisticated machinery currently in use by the company and the high degree of hygiene that the plant maintains.

He was also particularly keen to offer his support for any future ventures that the company want to be involved in.

This includes those ideas that increase employment locally and training opportunities for the youth of today to help to bring down the alarmingly high number of unemployment figures currently in place with local youngsters in the community.
