Smoking film winner to meet M&S ad director

YOUNG film makers in Lincolnshire could win a day with the director behind the M&S Food commercials and their creation could be shown at No Smoking Day events next year.

Cut Films is an annual film-making competition organised by the Deborah Hutton Campaign and is challenging anyone under 24-years-old to make a film which persuades their friends not to smoke.

Supporting this year’s competition is the county council-led Smokefree Lincs Alliance, which is also asking for the submissions which will then be considered for use as part of its local campaign next March.

The national prize will see the winners receive film equipment for their local school or youth club and a workshop with commercial director Charlie Stebbings, who has produced ads for M&S food, the Guinness “Bring it to Life” advert, Tesco and Haagen Dazs icecream.

Daniel Lowbridge, Young Persons Tobacco Control Specialist for Smokefree Lincs Alliance, said: “Everyone deserves the chance to understand just what cigarettes are like and what that small white tube can really do. That’s why this competition is a great chance for young people to create and produce their discoveries about the truth of smoking. Rather than being passive viewers, young people working together can use this opportunity to raise aspirations and convince their friends to re-consider their behaviour and attitudes towards smoking.

“We’re encouraging as many young people as possible to enter the national Cut Films contest and also ask them to submit their videos to the Smokefree Lincs Alliance at the same time.”
