Residents at Summerfield Rest Home in Sutton on Sea were given a special Christmas surprise when they received a visit from two Shetland ponies.
Sarah Smith of Applebank Ponies based in Saltfleetby came along to the rest home following a request from an employee of the home.
So Sarah was more than happy to grant the wish and took her three-year-old mare and two-month-old baby foal and surprised residents on last Thursday morning (December 18).
Sarah explained: “It was really nice to surprise the residents and bring something a bit unusual to them to brighten up their day and to give them a little bit of pony therapy.”
Both ponies had no trouble in getting around and were all dressed up looking festive in Santa hats and tinsel.
They travelled throughout the home so all residents were able to get a glimpse of them both and were even given the opportunity to pet them if they wanted to.
Sarah added: “Everyone loved them and both even went into some of the bedrooms and had a biscuit or two.
“Both were fabulous and I was amazed by how unphased they were as they haven’t really done anything like this before.
“Even the hats they were wearing didn’t bother them which was fantastic.
“The residents are still talking about the ponies visiting the home days later and still have smiles on their faces from the visit.
“It’s one of their main talking points right now, which is lovely feedback to hear.
“The residents were also very interested about the history of the ponies and how the ponies pedigrees go right back to 1880.”
