The Royal Horticultural Society have recognised an 11-year-old boy from Sutton on Sea after he impressed them with his gardening talents.
Jordan Havell, who will turn 12 later on this week, was highly commended in this year’s RHS Young Gardener of Year.
He was also awarded with a plaque for reaching level five in the society’s campaign for school gardening 2013.
Jordan is thrilled with his latest achievements and was excited to share his news with the Mablethorpe Leader.
“I feel really proud of myself by how far I have come during the last year,” he said.
“I hope to continue with the work I have started and carry it on in the future.”
Jordan’s enthusiastic gardening hobby began after he took an interest in his parents garden and was always keen to lend a hand, this spurred on his gardening interests even more and it ended up with him asking if he could create a garden of his own.
Jordan continued to say: “I really enjoyed helping my parents with their garden.
“I wanted to start my own, so I asked them if I could have a garden of my own to work on.”
To get a better knowledge of his gardening hobby, Jordan has also always been keen to take part in the many gardening schemes available to children via the Royal Horticultural Society.
After deciding he wanted to create his own garden, Jordan soon went to work and designed his dream garden.
He completely transformed the space he was allocated by his parents which was initially nothing but a pile of soil.
It took Jordan about a year to turn his garden from a dream into a reality and his latest achievements from the Royal Horticultural Society and the Sutton on Sea Horticultural Society reflect the hard work and dedication that Jordan has shown over the last year.
“I don’t have a favourite bit in my garden, I really like every bit of it,” Jordan said.
His mum Lianne Havell added: “I am one proud mum.
“We are so proud of Jordan and how far he has come and we’re always keen to keep hold of everything he has done and put Jordan’s accolades pride of place in our house.”
