A FANTASTIC £1,100 was raised for local charities when a 1940s night was held by local fundraising groups.

Over 200 people attended the evening held at the Grange and Links Hotel in Sandilands, with many dressing up in the attire of the time.

On the night five presentations were made to local causes thanks to similar fundraising events in the past, Keith’s Dog Rescue, LIVES, Coastwatch, Voluntary Car Service and Myasthenia Gravis.

The money was raised by Community Spirit along with Alford and Mablethorpe Rotary Club and the Sutton on Sea Fossils.

Ann Ranson, spokesperson for Community Spirit, said: “It was a very successful evening, we couldn’t believe how many people came with the majority in fancy dress.

“We hoped to sell 150 tickets but in the end it was a sellout with all 250 going.

“With the ticket sales and the raffle we managed to raise over £1,000 which we’re delighted with.

“Our thanks to Ann Askew for letting us use the Grange and Links and for putting on a fantastic meal.”

Community Spirit will meet to decide which charities will receive the money raised on the night.

The group are holding a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee event on June 5 at the Grange and Links, including a car boot and craft fair in the daytime and more celebrations in the evening.
