Louth Town Council met last night (Tuesday May 19) to elect the town’s new mayor and deputy mayor for the year ahead.

Coun Sue Locking, who served as deputy last year, was unanimously elected as the new Mayor of Louth - proposed by Coun George Horton, and seconded by Coun Jill Makinson-Sanders.

Coun Eileen Ballard and Coun Fran Treanor were both nominated to be the deputy mayor for the year ahead, with Coun Ballard being elected to the role following a secret ballot.

Outgoing mayor Coun Andrew Leonard thanked his colleagues and handed out gifts, saying that it had been “an honour and a pleasure” to serve as mayor during the last 12 months.
