THE Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council have given the thumbs up for a new food store at the site of the old Beach Hotel in Sutton on Sea.
The application was considered at the council’s planning committee meeting on Monday night, and it has been approved providing Lincolnshire County Council’s comments on parking and turning are considered by East Lindsey District Council.
And the final decision on the application made by property developers Glade Garland could be made as early as the end of this month as the consultation period comes to an end. It was confirmed to the Leader that the 325 metre store would be a Spar shop should the approval be granted. The site is currently a privately owned pay and display car park.
Permission for the build was initially granted in January 2006 after an application five months earlier, but the plans never came to fruition. The old plans were due to expire later this year hence the new application.
Despite gaining the thumbs up from the town council, the proposal has been met with mixed views during the consultation. One neighbour said: “I do not understand why a commercial property is suitable for this location. The fact that the planned store could be open 15 hours per day will increase the noise level dramatically for me and my family, and surrounding residents.”
The application was backed by the Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board subject to their drainage assessment.
