Town Council ‘no’ to Town Crier’s rock in Mablethorpe

MABLETHORPE Town Council has decided not to provide Town Crier Roy Palmer with a fixed ‘Roy’s Rock’ from which to give his proclamations.

The Leader reported last month that Roy was hopeful the council would give him a rock outside the Original Factory Shop, which the retailer had agreed to accomodate.

But at Monday’s Communuty Amenities Meeting, the committee said that whilst they won’t stand in the way of other organisations providing a movable plinth, no provision would be made by them.

They were also concerned about the potential of a trip hazard from a fixed plinth.

The councillors agreed they’d rather see Roy moving around the town than in one place.

Roy said: “I’m very disappointed as I feel the town crier needs a focal point.

“I’m hopeful I’ll find another organisation who can help me.”

Meanwhile, Roy held a successful town crier’s coffee morning in Sutton on Sea on Saturday, which raised £650 for Louth and District Multiple Scleroris Society.
