In the last week of the Town Neighbourhood Policing Team’s Christmas Crime Prevention Campaign, the topic is presents and how to not let burglars get away with it.

As Christmas day is fast approaching, people are completing their Christmas shopping and placing their gifts under the tree. But criminals don’t care what time of the year it is when they commit crime.

The message from the Town Neighbourhood Policing Team is to never become complacent at any time of the year, especially around Christmas when criminals are on the lookout for an easy target.

PCSO Andrea Cave said: “Don’t make it a Merry Christmas for thieves – don’t give them a gift-wrapped present.”

Make sure you; Secure all external doors and windows, make a record of makes and serial numbers of valuable electrical items, or alternatively, mark valuables with an ultra violet marker pen with your postcode and house number, assisting Police with identifying stolen property.

If you see anything suspicious at Christmas call your local police on 101 or if it’s an emergency, call 999.
