A 19-year-old man from North Thoresby was airlifted to hospital following a collision between his motorcycle and a Vauxhall Astra in Newmarket, Louth, early yesterday evening (Wednesday March 2) - and police are now appealing for witnesses.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital, and then airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary with a serious leg injury. He is now stable.

The car driver was uninjured.

As reported yesterday, part of Newmarket was closed in both directions for most of the evening following the collision.

PC Andy Richardson of the Tactical Roads Policing Team said: “This collision happened in a busy area at a time of day when other motorists and pedestrians were using the road.

“There may well be other witnesses who have not spoken to us and I would ask anyone who saw the collision, or either vehicle prior to the incident, to contact me”.

• Anyone with information should contact Lincolnshire Police by dialling 101 and quoting incident number 312 of March 2.
