John Monk MBE said: “This year’s event was absolutely fantastic, it’s the best one that has ever been done and we received an amazing amount of support.

“We’ve raised at least £800, with more money yet to come in, which will be used to buy a community defibrillator which will be housed here at The Meridale Centre.

“A big thank you goes out to everyone who came along to support the event, everyone who played during the weekend and all those who sponsored this year’s team.”

A number of veterans who have played over the 45 years, also came along to join in, including Ian Watson and Michael Cox, who were part of the original team during the first marathon that took place in 1970.

After the marathon ended on Sunday, the traditional ping pong song was sung loud and clear for everyone to hear alongside a buffet spread and refreshments.

The video footage shows the run around of table tennis playing, where it gave the players the last bit of fun from the event, followed by the countdown to the end of the 24-hours and then the traditional ping pong song is sung by the meridale team.
