Video: Hundreds attend Jobs Fair in Mablethorpe

Hundreds of jobseekers attended Mablethorpe Community Centre on Friday (February 20) as local employers showcased more than 100 jobs – many of which have now been filled.

Around 500 jobseekers attended the event run by the District Council in conjunction with Job Centre Plus. Here is some video footage of the crowds that were in attendance during the day.

Local jobseekers were matched with potential employers such as Haven, Park Resorts, Linkage and The Beck.

The Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Councillor Craig Leyland, said: “The event was once again very well attended with numbers up on last year showing the need for such an event in this area.

“In a District such as East Lindsey, seasonal employment makes up a large proportion of the work force, so winter months can be particularly difficult for many people. It is therefore encouraging to see so many local employers offering vacancies at a time when many people will be keen to get back into employment.

“Many of the posts available have now been filled as a direct result of this job fair and many more employers are now starting the process of interviewing those who applied.”

With over 2,000 people claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance in East Lindsey, the event aimed to help potential employees understand the jobs market and access the jobs and training opportunities on offer.

June Howard, of Job Centre Plus, added: “With unemployment in the area being down 25 per cent on last year, the fact more people turned up than last year was unexpected.

“But, it just goes to show that these events are not just for unemployed people, they are for everyone. As well as those currently unemployed, we saw students looking for their first job experience and employed people looking for a new challenge.

“The number of people who attended shows the importance of these events in local communities as part of the jobseeking experience.”

As well as both full and part time, permanent and temporary job opportunities on offer, those who attended could also take advantage of recruitment and training advice, as well as information on apprenticeship and volunteering opportunities.

A further recruitment fair will take place on Wednesday, February 25, at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness between 10.30am and 2pm, and will see more than 150 vacancies on offer from employers including Butlins, Boots, Coastfields Leisure and McDonalds.
