Video: Work begins on £50 million housing and Tesco supermarket development in Mablethorpe

Work has begun on a huge new development in Mablethorpe including 180 new homes and a Tesco supermarket.

LB Mablethorpe Ltd, an offshoot of Lincoln-based firm Lindum, has begun initial works on the construction off Golf Road which also includes a petrol station, pub and restaurant.

Lindum's LB Mablethorpe project has now been given the national go ahead after the secretary of state decided not to call in the application.

Lindum's LB Mablethorpe project has now been given the national go ahead after the secretary of state decided not to call in the application.

The road to the start of the work has been a long one though. The planning application was initially turned down by East Lindsey District Council in December 2011 before it was heard again in March 2012 after the firm claimed there were ‘procedural irregularities’ in the initial hearing.

It was then given the green light by councillors after causing controversy locally with local residents setting up rival campaigns, both for and against the development.

An £850,000 community development fund will be made available by Lindum and part of it will go towards a swimming pool feasibility study, local sports facilities and flood evacuation signage for the surrounding area.

The build on the 30 acre site will take up to five years and it is believed it could provide a further 300 long term jobs for the town.
