He said: “The walk started out as a personal challenge as this year I will be 40, as will Wainwrights walk having been first published in 1973. Walking in aid of the RAFBF has significance also, this year the RAF is celebrating its 95th year and the Dambusters 70th anniversary.
Growing up in Lincolnshire you cannot fail to appreciate the aviation heritage of the County and its links to the RAF, and without their being here may have led to a very different outlook today.
“The RAFBF provides support to all ex and current RAF service personnel and their families, if I can help in just a small way by raising funds on my walk then I will have reached a greater goal than completing the walk itself.
“I have been given a great deal of support so far, I have been donated a support vehicle by Feathers Vehicle Rental in Lincoln for the duration of the walk, my cousin Shaun Whitworth and his wife Dawn will drive and collect me after each days walk although I aim to walk to overnight stops each day without the need for the vehicle.
“My wife, Lisa has arranged the overnight stops, helped me plan the walk, and supported me whilst I moan about being quite unfit! I have had very welcome donations from the local public and business which are coming in steadily, 100 per cent of all donations will go to the RAFBF, lodgings, fuel and any other costs will be paid by myself.”
