‘YOUNG smugglers’ are being recruited in Alford as part of a new initative.
The town’s local neighbourhood policing team are looking for people aged between 11 and 13 to join the Junior Smugglers Scheme meeting every Friday.
The new initiative aims to provide activities for youngsters beginning with the creation of a committee headed up by a chair and vice chair.
The youngsters will then be divided up into smaller groups and challenged to complete a project of their choice using research facilities within Alford Library.
It starts this Friday, March 9 from 5.30pm until 6.30pm at the library.
PCSO Phillips or Alford said: “This scheme will give local youngsters the opportunity to build their teamwork and communication skills and provide them with an interesting community activity.
“This will help reduce incidents of antisocial behaviour in the town and also educate the young people about the great source of interest and fun that a library can be.”
The scheme will end on Friday, June 15 when the completed projects will go on display in the library and participants will be presented with a certificate and reward for their efforts.
Any parents wishing to go along and join in are more than welcome.
