Nine young swimmers from East Lindsey rubbed shoulders with Olympians as they took part in the national Swim Britain Challenge, as the Meridian Leisure Centre entered three teams.

The teams joined another 43 at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield, where they met swimming legends including Paralympian gold medallist Oliver Lynd, Olympian Amy Smith and Commonwealth medallists Joe Roebuck, Ellie Faulkner and Claire Cashmore.

The three Meridian teams finished 24th, 27th and 30th place overall.

Portfolio Holder with responsibility for Leisure, Councillor Adam Grist, said: “It is great to see young swimmers from the Meridian Leisure Centre take part in the Swim Britain event. To meet Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth swimmers was a great opportunity and hopefully will inspire them to keep up with their swimming. Who knows – maybe we have a future Olympic swimmer among the group.”
