EDITOR - While everyone must be delighted by Donna’s miraculous recovery after her cycle accident, as reported in the Louth Leader, surely the family’s campaign to have the speed limit reduced ought to be made in tandem with an equally strident call for the wearing of cycle helmets to be made compulsory.

Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins has backed a change in the law to oblige cyclists to wear helmets. He said making it illegal to cycle without a helmet would make the roads safer ‘because ultimately, if you get knocked off and you ain’t got a helmet on, then how can you argue?’
