EDITOR – Just arrived back from a few days’ holiday in Scarborough and I could not believe the amount of new development going on.
It appears that the local council are all for commercial development as it is the way forward for seaside resorts.
Mablethorpe, though, is in a time warp and will not alter until the local planners start to allow all commercial development, along with flood-resistant housing estates.
There do not seem to be any problems with this type of development in Skegness or Cleethorpes, so why the difference?
The only other resort I can compare with Mablethorpe is Withernsea, but at least they have had substantial sea defence walls built, and they don’t require millions of pounds worth of sand dredging done every year.
