LOUTH Town brought the curtain down on their historic first season with a 2-2 draw against Kiveton Park in front of a bumper Bank Holiday crowd at Park Avenue on Monday.
Nick Manders went closest to breaking the deadlock for Town on the quarter hour mark when he broke on the right hand side and unleashed a vicious swerving shot which just grazed the outside of the near post.
Only Two minutes later and Nick Hopper also went close, forcing Pywell in the visitor's goal into making a good save from his header.
Paul Gains, the Town keeper then took centre stage first saving at the feet of Wellwood and then leaping to finger tip over a shot from Green.
It was Town who broke the deadlock with five minutes to go to the break.
Mike Armstrong raced clear on the right and with no colleague in the middle for support, went for goal himself and sent a perfectly flighted chip over Pywell and just under the angle of post and bar for a superb opener.
Town suffered a set back on the stroke of half time when Nick Manders went down heavily under a challenge and had to limp out of the action.
There was a perfect start to the second period for Town when Pete Herriman got on the end of a delicate chip from Aron Burton to head his first goal for the club.
There was a double blow for Town when Paul Gains fell awkwardly trying to keep the ball out of the net and he was unable to continue. With no reserve keeper available, Nick Hopper took over in goal.
Play now became stretched and Andy Davey hit a post for Town with Wellwood heading wide for the visitors. Aron Burton shot off target and then Pete Herriman poked the ball narrowly wide with Pywell scrambling.
Town were made to pay for not taking their chances to make the game safe when Michael Taylor scored to level things up with five minutes to play.
Pete Herriman shot over after breaking down the left and then Town had to endure a nervy five minutes of injury time as Kiveton looked for a winner.
At the final whistle a draw was a fair result and Town had finished their first ever season with a tally of 53 points from their 38 league games and a respectable place in mid table.
The game was sponsored by Nor-cargo Limited of Stallingborough, the match ball was sponsored by Ron and Doreen Wilson.
