CAPTAIN'S day was celebrated at Sandilands Golf Club and 70 gentleman members played on Captain Michael Collins's day. The competition format was as usual a medal round with the winner being presented with the captain's putter.
Below par scores were not going to be easy given the dreadful weather conditions.

In the main Competition the winner with 69 was Alan Edwards, Dennis Jeffcock came second with 70.

Third place was decided on countbacks with both players scoring 71. David Hoare was third, Simon James fourth and Chris Willey came fifth with 72.

Only three players achieved two’s on the day, Laurie Howden at the 2nd, Dave Smith at the 10th and Alan Edwards at the 13th. Best gross score went to Mark Payne with 76.

In the Ladies Competition Freda Smith was first with 34pts, Shirley Christian second with 32pts and Lady Captain Margaret Hammond third with 30pts.

Michael announced his charities for this year would be the Guide Dogs for the Blind and Furnichurch, a Mablethorpe based charity.

A hit/miss Competition was held whereby all entrants were invited to pay £5 to either hit/miss all the par 3’s. This replaced the usual sale of raffle tickets with all proceeds going to the charities.

A grand total of £600 was raised for the charities on the day. This goes into the ‘pot’ to be paid out at the end of Michael’s year in office.

The captain’s putter went to Alan Edwards. The special captain’s award went to Tom Ross who took 15 shots on the third hole.
