FOR the second time this summer, young windsurfers from all over the North of England met at Covenham Reservoir on Sunday to take part in the RYA Team 15 Championship 2008.
Covenham Sailing and Windsurfing Club hosted the third round of the championship for windsurfers under the age of 16 to show their skills against each other and to win points for their club.
Covenham Cyclones crushed the opposition on their home waters and now go on to the final event in the regional competition at Pugneys Sailing Centre, Wakefield, on September 21.
The club with the most points at the end of the series becomes the North Zone Team 15 Champion Club and goes on to compete with all the other regional winners to become Team 15 UK Champion Club 2008.
Despite a frustrating lack of wind, some competitive races were held in the afternoon at Covenham in a swirling, shifting breeze that tested the skill and endurance of the young windsurfers to the limit.
Nine-year-old Harry Davis from Barton upon Humber, of the North Lincs Invaders, was outstanding with five wins out of six races in the 3.5m fleet.
This score was only topped by 15-year-old Jack Maw from Louth who won every race in the 6.8m fleet for the Covenham Cyclones.
Another fantastic achievement came from 12-year-old Robert York from Skegness who won three races out of four in the 5.5m class.
In all it was a great day for the windsurfers from Humberside with wins in the two junior classes (3.5m and 4.5m) going to the North Lincs Invaders and the three youth classes (5.5m, 6.8m and the 6.8m Techno) going to the home team of the Covenham Cyclones.
