GRAINTHORPE travelled to Horncastle in the RP Smith League on Saturday, having won the toss skipper Mick Stapleton opted to bat first.
Openers Richard Boxall and Mike Palmer started well with an opening stand of 47 before Boxall went for 22, Palmer kept chipping away but Grainthorpe were reduced to 108 for 4, then an unbroken partnership of 96 between Palmer (72 not out) and Stapleton (45 not out) saw Grainthorpe finish on 204 for 4 off their 40 overs.

Horncastle kept up with the run rate only for the spin duo of Dan Callanan and Ashley Smith combined to peg them back, Smith picking up 4 wickets and Callanan 2, these wickets being aided by 3 stumpings from wicket keeper Boxall and 2 good deep catches by Mike Smith.

The game was still tight until the 35th over when Mike Cooper executed a dramatic run out and Rav Bains took the last Horncastle wicket to give Grainthorpe victory by 30 runs.
