STUDENT Hannah Stratford from Louth is in training to take part in a battle of the titans – the annual Cambridge v Oxford women's boat race.
Hannah, 21, of Legbourne Road, is studying Experimental Psychology at Cambridge University.
She trains to an elite level with the university Women's Boat Club and this year has gained a seat in the Light Blues' first boat.
The team will be racing against their Oxford counterparts at Henley on April 1.
Hannah said: "It is very exciting to be able to compete in the Henley Boat Races, an event that attracts more than 10,000 supporters each year."
Last year Hannah was in the Cambridge number two team which lost out to Oxford by two and a half boat lengths.
She is a former pupil of King Edward VI Grammar School in Louth.
Historically Cambridge lead by 74 wins to Oxford's 44 in the annual women's boat race.
Hannah is trying to raise £500 in sponsorship for her training, transport and accommodation expenses.
Businesses or individuals willing to help can call her on 07916 202621.
Student Bridget Staunton from Westgate, Louth, is also racing on the same day – but in the Oxford women's team.
Bridget is a third year medical student at St Hilda's College and this is her first year in the squad.
She said: "I started rowing in my first year at Oxford and then joined the university squad last year.
"My previous rowing experience includes winning a gold medal at BUSA, a gold medal at Henley Women's Regatta and a silver medal at the National Rowing Championships of Great Britain in 2006.
"I broke my wrist just before Christmas which didn't help much with selection but I'm delighted now to have a seat in Osiris, Oxford's second boat. Our sponsors are Merrill Lynch."
