THE Men's Over 60 team recorded a narrow home win over their Skegness counterparts at Louth Indoor Bowls Club with the aggregate score in doubt right until the final couple of ends.
The rinks of Howard Hurst and George Swann led throughout, winning by 6 shots and 5 shots respectively, the margins only being reduced when the opposiition picked up shots late in the game.

Keith Castledine's rink had a tougher time, falling fo
ur shots behind on the 16th end but hitting back with a '4' on the next end and eventually hanging on to win by one shot.

It was tight on John Welsh's rink too until Skegness opened up an 8-shot lead on the 17th but the Louth men came back with six shots and were set for victory on the final end until the opposition drove the jack off the rink to kill the end and clinch a two shot win.

George Willoughby's rink suffered the loss of eight shots in a four-end spell midway through the game and never really recovered until the final two ends when picking up a '3' and a '4' to get the visitors sweating but finished short by two shots. So, three rink wins which could have been five with a little luck but the bonus points were collected due to the 93 to 85 overall victory.

The newly formed Mixed 'B' team had its first outing when travelling to Stamford and did well to come away with two rink wins but one of the other three rinks lost heavily which had its effect on the aggregate score of 107 to 77 in favour of the home team.

Considering this was the first experience of county league action for many of the Louth team it was a pretty good all-round effort.

George Willoughby's rink took the honours with a 26 - 17 win whilst John Tuplin's quartet overturned a six-shot deficit to win 18 - 12.

The Men's 'A' team did not fare so well on their trip to Stamford, losing the aggregate by 109 shots to 86 and managing just two points as Harry Putland's rink provided some cheer with a 29 - 9 win.

At one stage it seemed that Colin Smith's rink might also scrape a win as they led 13 - 4 at one stage but Stamford rattled up 14 shots over the next five ends to go in front 18 - 15.

Smith's men hit back with a 4 on the next end to regain the lead but then dropped a '3' on the last end to lose by two shots. Aaagh!

For one rink the day proved disastrous (names withheld to avoid embarassment) as they failed to score until the 11th end and found themselves 23 - nil down.

At least they managed to hold their own for the rest of the game before eventually losing 32 - 10.
