Louth Utd Ladies 2 – Gainsborough Trinity 1

LOUTH United FC and Theddlethorpe FC jointly staged the first ever football tournament for boys, girls and ladies last weekend.

Held at Marshlands, the new home of Louth United the tournament attracted an entry of nearly 60 teams over the two day event. The furthest away team travelled from Sheffield with teams from United, Theddlethorpe and Louth Old Boys representing local football. Over the two days there were more than 500 players taking part with as many parents and spectators.

Luckily the threatened rain held off during the weekend and as a result the event saw some enjoyable and exciting football being played. Unfortunately on the Saturday no Louth United or Theddlethorpe team made the final but the Theddlethorpe Under 8 squad finished second in their friendly league, all boys receiving a medal for taking part.
On the Sunday girls and ladies teams from all over the county competed.

In the ladies section the impressive Louth United Ladies played a total of six games, scoring 17 goals in all and winning every game without conceding.

In the final against Gainsborough Trinity the Louth Ladies conceded their only goal of the tournament to find themselves down to the Gainsborough side. Cool nerves however saw Nikki Charlton's glancing back-header find the corner of the goal to equalise and soon after the re-start the fantastic Toni McHamilton turned and volleyed the ball from the half-way line into the top right hand corner of the Trinity net.

This latest Ladies' win is the fourth consecutive tournament win in 3 years.

Louth United's Chairman Mick Graves was thrilled with the weekend tournament. "The team who helped out at the weekend were great" he said. "From organising parking to refereeing and recording results, cooking food and staffing the bar, everyone worked hard to make the event a huge success. Next year we shall be bigger and better", he added.
