WITH the sun and temperatures soaring at Owmby Louth won the toss and elected to bat.
Another opening stand of 36 scored in good time this looked like a day when a score in excess of 200 would be par for Owmby, a feat which was only accomplished on several occasions last year by any side.
Louth then lost two wickets with the score on 36, the same thing that had plagued Louth's batting over recent weeks, not being able to rebuild after the loss of a wicket.
This happened on two further occasions during the Louth innings but yet again several players stood up to produce vital innings when they were needed most.
Graham West again reached 50, before being adjudged caught behind, Matthew Crowther 23 and vice captain Graeme Bell 30 not out at the end, saw Louth attain the elusive mark of 210 for 8 and seal 4 batting points in the process.
Grimsby's reply started with a flurry of well struck boundaries which quickly saw them reach 24 before the loss of their first wicket in the 5th over.
That brought recent centurion Oli Burford to the crease but a well taken catch at cover saw him return to the pavilion for just 10. Louth continued to apply pressure from here reducing Grimsby to 58 for 5 in the 15th over.
Stewart West, bowling in partnership with Nuwan Shiroman took two wickets each in this period.
Grimsby then developed a partnership of 80 between Michael Brown and Danny Cliffe, two youngsters in their side.
But after the second drinks break with the match evenly poised both fell in quick succession to Shiroman.
This saw the end of the Grimsby fight back as they went from 138 for 5 to 154 all out.
Shiroman finished the game with figures of 6 for 21 off his 13.4 overs.
An important win that continues the good start to the season for Louth who now sit fourth in the League. Thanks go to match sponsor Bridge McFarland.
* Louth Cricket Club would like to invite people to watch their cup match on Sunday at Owmby against Nottinghamshire ECB team The West Indian Cavaliers.
This is the first time the club has been entered into the National Cockspur Cup competition and it promises to be a great occasion, with the likes of current Nottinghamshire player Bilal Shafayat playing for them.
The game will start at 12.30pm and there will be plenty happening on and off the field with a proposed U11 Kwik cricket game taking place in the interval.
