Louth Women announced their arrival to the new Lincolnshire Women’s League with a thumping 10 wicket win over Lindum Ladies in the inaugural match on Tuesday evening.
With heavy cloud and light threatening it was reduced to a 16 over match with Louth winning the toss and sending Lindum straight in to face some fierce and tight bowling by both opening bowlers with Jill Lancaster (4-1-14-2) and Katie Veall (3-0-15-1) picking up a wicket each in their opening spells.
Fielding was tight and Louth kept great control of the run rate with Lindum restricted to 42-4 after eight overs with two fantastic run-outs from Rosie Barker and Kath Hill.
Louth continued to exert pressure with Bilcliffe (3-0-6-3) taking three wickets in four balls and then McGarel coming on to take the crucial wicket of their top scorer Chelsey just as she was beginning to look good at the crease.
A stunning direct hit from Veall on the boundary took the tenth and final wicket, rounding off a solid fielding performance with Darnell (2) Coles (2) and Bradley all holding good catches. Lindum closed on 68 off 14.4 overs.
Louth wasted no time at all chasing down the total with both openers Hill (27*) and Lancaster (33*) producing some classy strokes, with great self-discipline against some really tight bowling from the Lindum opening bowlers.
The 50 partnership came up in seven overs and the pair sealed an emphatic victory for Louth in the 9th over.
